Bull Sprig Hunting Club
Established 1965
When there is only one duck on the Grand Prairie, it will be sitting on Bull Sprig duck club.”

How it started…
Elmer Grant, the founding father of Bull Sprig, took a doctor from St. Louis duck hunting at the famous Tyndall Reservoir in the 1940’s, and the idea of forming a duck club in the Stuttgart area was born. On September 14, 1945 Elmer along with Dr. Grey Jones, leased approximately 1200 acres using some cash in a lockbox as collateral. The name “Bull Sprig”, a slang term for a drake pintail duck, was chosen by Dr. Jones. Bull Sprig was officially recognized as a Missouri Corporation in June 7, 1951. It operated as a commercial hunting club from 1945 until 1966.
How it became what it is today…
In the 1960’s the owners of Bull Sprig were getting on in years, and the duck population was in serious decline, so they decided to sell. Elmer Grant had developed a strong friendship with Dr. Hal R. Black, who assembled a group of ten members to purchase the club for $125,000 on February 17.1966. This was considered a very risky move considering this was during a time of low bag limits and where many considered the future of duck hunting in jeopardy. That gamble paid off and today, the Bull Sprig hunting club is considered one of the premier duck hunting clubs in Arkansas.
